Substance Abuse and  Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) - “Office of the Director (OD) Logistics Consumer Scholarships.” AFYA manages the CMHS Consumer Scholarship Program. This important program enables mental health consumers to participate in national and regional meetings to voice their perspectives on emerging and current issues, policies, and trends. We oversee the application and selection process and provide full support to selected consumers in making arrangements to attend these events.

Substance Abuse and  Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) – “New Freedom Initiative: State Coalitions To Promote Community-Based Care.”  The goal of the President’s New Freedom Commission on Mental Health is to transform the U.S. mental health system into a comprehensive network of consumer-oriented services. AFYA’s role was to assist States and State coalitions in developing community integration plans to serve adults with serious mental illnesses and children with serious emotional disturbances. Our services included training and TA through conferences, meetings, and one-on-one TA consultation; report development and dissemination; program evaluation; and Web site maintenance.

Substance Abuse and  Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) – “Monitoring and Promoting Effective Implementation of PATH-Funded Services.” AFYA staff conducted site visits to provide onsite technical assistance to State staff and direct service providers receiving funds under CMHS’s Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness (PATH) program. Following initial record review, AFYA visited grantees in Maryland, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, and West Virginia and conducted both group and individual interviews.

National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD)  –“Support the National Center for Trauma-Informed Care (NCTIC) .” Under a subcontract with NASMHPD, AFYA staff  will provide full logistical support for several events. We will plan the “Dare to Transform” (D2T) conference for 500 attendees, including 150 consumer scholarship recipients. We will also manage plans for a second large conference, “Interfaith Mental Health Conference on the Role of Religion and Spirituality in Trauma-Informed Care.” We will also plan two smaller meetings for consumers and survivors, “Peer Dialogues on Trauma-Informed Care.” These meetings will address specific areas of concern related to implementing trauma-informed care in community settings.

Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA). AFYA was the subcontractor of choice for DBSA to provide logistical support for several of the Alliance’s meetings. DBSA sought AFYA’s services because of our extensive meeting planning expertise, years of experience supporting the Consumer Scholarship Program and other SAMHSA/CMHS programs, and our in-place relationships with many key stakeholders.
