Selected Contract Awards

AFYA is pleased to announce the following selected contract awards for 2009:

  • Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). “Learnings for Implementing Electronic Exchange of Health Information: A Synthesis of AHRQ’s Health Information Exchange (HIE) Projects.”
AFYA is using a broad range of data collection methods (case studies, environmental scans, document review, key informant interviews, and literature review) to compile and synthesize data on key lessons learned on AHRQ-funded HIE projects. AFYA researchers are working collaboratively with AHRQ State and Regional Demonstrations (SRDs) in Health Information Technology (Health IT) contractors and selected Transforming Healthcare Quality through Information Technology (THQIT) grantees to collect data for developing case studies. They will then develop a detailed health information exchange (HIE) synthesis report, with recommendations for the adoption of processes that will promote HIE use. They will also develop a toolkit or resource repository that can be easily accessed and used to accelerate implementation of HIE in other communities.

  • Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). “Evaluation of the National Guideline Clearinghouse™ (NGC).”
AFYA will initiate this project by finalizing the evaluation framework and work plan we proposed, using the Context-Input-Process-Product (CIPP) model. We will then conduct an environmental scan to formulate research questions, define evaluation measures and develop a baseline, and apply a participatory approach to conducting the evaluation. Our quantitative and qualitative data collection methods will include review of existing NGC databases, key informant interviews, focus groups, and a Web-based survey.

  • Office on Women’s Health (OWH)/HHS. “Environmental Scan of Current Girl/Adolescent Health Activities for Development of a National Girl-Adolescent Health and Wellness Initiative.”
AFYA is conducting a multi-faceted study to develop a set of recommendations that will guide OWH in creating and implementing a National Girl-Adolescent Health and Wellness Initiative. We are identifying the top 10 priority health issues impacting girls and adolescents; conducting a comprehensive literature review; and analyzing relevant laws, regulations, and policies. We will also identify existing best practice models as well as potential, key partners for OWH on the initiative. The project will culminate with the development of a comprehensive final report and a presentation to top OWH and HHS executives.

  • Westover Consultants, Inc. “Office of the Director (OD) Logistics Consumer Scholarships.”
As a subcontractor to Westover, AFYA will continue to provide key support to the SAMHSA/Center for Mental Health Service’s Consumer Scholarship Program. We will manage the application and award process that enables consumers to participate in national and regional meetings to voice their perspectives on emerging and current issues, policies, and trends.
