AFYA is a professional services firm founded in 1991. Our primary focus is to address challenges dealing with public health and safety. Our hallmark is our commitment to excellence, as demonstrated by our motto “ Achieving Excellence Through Service.”
1991: AFYA received its first contract to provide marketing and new business development services to Westover Consultants, Inc.
1992: AFYA was awarded its first Federal Government contract with the Office of Minority Health to provide technical and support services. AFYA also wins an evaluation contract with HRSA’s BHPr.
1994: In April AFYA received 8(a) certification by the SBA and in September wins its first 8(a) contract, an IDIQ contract with HCFA (now CMS). Under the IDIQ, AFYA is awarded task orders to provide conference, curriculum development, training & TA, and research services. Awarded more than 90 task orders, HCFA/CMS was AFYA’s largest customer for 9 years.
1995: AFYA is awarded its first private sector contract with the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation providing conference support services.
1996: AFYA was awarded its first contract with ACF. AFYA quickly expanded its niche within ACF providing conference, evaluation, peer review, and training & TA services for OCS, OFA, and ORR.
1998: AFYA wins a contract with FEMA’s National Fire Academy to provide evaluation services.
1999: AFYA is awarded its first contract with AHCPR (now AHRQ), providing peer review support.
2002: AFYA is one of only 7 companies to be awardees on a SAMHSA IDIQ. Under this vehicle AFYA provided training & TA and conference support services.
2003: AFYA graduates from the 8(a) program and doesn’t miss a beat.
2006: In an effort to diversify AFYA’s customer base, AFYA competes and wins a cooperative agreement with the Corporation for National and Community Service. CNCS rapidly becomes AFYA’s largest customer.
2007: AFYA is awarded a contract under a new IDIQ with SAMHSA whereby AFYA provides training & TA and health communications services and program support services in the area of health policy.
Also during 2007, AFYA further diversifies its customer base by winning a private sector contract with the American Lung Association of DC to provide evaluation services for the District of Columbia Tobacco Cessation Program.
2008: AFYA is awarded its second contract with AHRQ (formerly AHCPR), an IDIQ providing evaluation services.
2010: In an effort to continue to diversify its customer base, AFYA wins its first contract with the Department of Education, providing conference support services.
AFYA launches The AFYA Foundation for Children’s Health whose initial focus will be children’s education and teen pregnancy prevention.
2011: AFYA celebrates 20 years in business.
